Here’s some bad news for all the Kia drivers out there. A group of security researchers found a bug in the automaker’s web portal that gives hackers the ability to track vehicles, remotely start their engines, and unlock their doors. We’re sure Kia is working on a fix… but if your car starts driving itself, now you may know why.

Zillow Now Warns Buyers If A Home Will Be Destroyed By Climate
Zillow is rolling out a new feature that shows the climate risks tied to properties for sale on the platform — realities that could majorly affect homebuyers’ decisions.
The Big Picture: As extreme weather dominates the headlines more each day, the home-buying mantra of “location, location, location” has never been more important.
Between the Listings: In partnership with non-profit organization First Street, Zillow’s new climate-risk tool gives buyers a breakdown of what… well… could potentially break their house.
It details the risks homes have to wildfires, flooding, extreme temperatures, high winds, and poor air quality… and the “forecasted severity” of those risks via a color scale, per The Verge.
It’ll let buyers know what kind of insurance plans are required for properties (and how premiums could increase) and assess what type of insurance should be required based on the risk factors.
For example, a study by First Street found that 74% of homes flooded by this year’s Hurricane Debby were located in areas that didn’t require flood insurance… but Zillow’s tool says 85% of them would’ve been stamped with an insurance recommendation.
Closing Thoughts: You’d be shocked at how many properties are threatened by climate-related disasters. Zillow says that 16.7% of new listings in August had a “major risk” of being affected by wildfire, and 12.8% had the same risk of flooding. That’s some serious consideration for those looking to make what is likely the biggest purchase of their lives. Expect the properties in relative climate-safe zones to soon become the hottest — but not fire hot — commodity.

Graphene May Map the Human Brain
A material called “graphene,” which is the thinnest material known to humans, was successfully placed on a human brain for the first time — potentially unlocking a host of new therapies for neurological conditions.
The Big Thought: Brain implants are all the rage these days (partly due to the hype around Elon Musk’s Neuralink), but they inherently seem like the realm of science fiction. The safest, most effective, and most non-invasive technologies will ultimately be the ones that win over patients.
Between the Ears: After University of Manchester researchers Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov won a Nobel Prize in 2010 for figuring out how to isolate graphene, the material has been used in every technology imaginable. Now, it was trialed on the most powerful interface of all — the human brain.
A tape of graphene (a layer of carbon half the thickness of human hair) was temporarily put on a patient at the University of Manchester during a surgery to remove a tumor — ensuring only cancerous portions of the organ were removed.
The tech, developed by Spanish company InBrain Neuroelectronics, is the most cutting-edge way to decode the brain’s electrical signals because its flexibility allows it to morph and bend with the soft tissue.
The Future: Mapping the brain is just the tip of the iceberg of InBrain’s ambitions. It can be combined with electrodes to provide deep-brain stimulation (DBS), which can be used to treat Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, stroke, and more. DBS is already an approved therapy, but InBrain’s material is allegedly more precise and 200x stronger than current devices.
And since the material also lasts longer than current metal-based ones, InBrain could be on the path of improving the quality of life for millions of people at a cheaper cost to them and insurance companies. Mind-blowing.
