An 11-year-old with a physics degree is trying to reach technological “immortality”
The Future. An 11-year-old boy named Laurent Simons has already graduated college (with distinction) and is now setting out on a quest that would make Elon Musk blush: to replace his entire body with machine parts in order to achieve “immortality.” From an 11-year-old, it sounds like pure fantasy… but maybe he’s onto something in an era where the development of biohacking and Musk’s own Neuralink are gaining steam.
Mini-MuskWhat if you could be more machine than man… and then live forever? That’s what Laurent Simons is setting out to accomplish.
Graduating in the top of his class from Belgium’s University of Antwerp with a bachelor’s degree in physics, Simons said he wants to achieve “immortality” by “replac[ing] as many body parts as possible with mechanical parts.”
He said he’s “mapped out a path to get there,” claiming that quantum physics is “the first piece of the puzzle.”
Simons’ plan may sound outrageous, but it’s not without precedent. Elon Musk is trying to merge artificial intelligence and the human brain via his Neuralink. Also, the rise of biohacking is dedicated to the science of upgrading our bodies with tech, and already has a dedicated subculture.
If you want to see Simons’ journey play out, you can follow him on Instagram… where he’s already amassed over 62K followers that he may outlive.
