Happy Monday, FutureParty people. Did you catch the Emmys last night? The big news of the night was the record-breaking haul by FX’s Shōgun, which took home 18 wins, including Best Drama — the most wins ever for a single season of a show. And in the comedy category, FX’s The Bear continues its reign with 11 wins — breaking its record for most comedy wins in a single year. There truly is no one in the world who popped more bottles of champagne last night than FX head John Landgraf.

South Korea Goes Hollywood
The South Korean government plans to build a new development dedicated to all things entertainment — including film and TV production, K-pop incubation, and gaming — in order to create a cultural hub and jumpstart tourism.
The Big Picture: Korean content has exploded in popularity all around the world. By building its own version of Hollywood, South Korea seems to be betting on entertainment as a key export for future growth — both culturally and economically.
Behind the Curtain: South Korea’s Hollywood could be ready for action by 2035, if production goes as planned.
The 3.3-square-kilometer development will house specialized schools, production facilities, and replicas of Joseon dynasty palaces that can be used for production.
The still-unnamed “giant entertainment city,” according to culture minister Yu In-Chon, hopes to specifically attract tourists from China and Japan.
Closing Thoughts: South Korean entertainment generated $114 billion in revenue last year, so the country wants to capitalize on the exploding industry, which also includes establishing a $75 million fund with international VCs to invest in content. Considering the positive reputation of South Korea’s unique content and talent in Hollywood, top filmmakers from all over the world may flock to the new city to get risky projects produced.
Go Deeper: Saudi Arabia is also building its own entertainment-focused city — Qiddiya.

Netflix Joins Hot Ones
Netflix is in talks with BuzzFeed’s First We Feast to stream exclusive live episodes of the hit YouTube talk show Hot Ones, which would give the streamer a major asset for its live programming ambitions.
Why It Hits: Netflix has been dipping its toes into live programming for the past couple of years, recently stepping up with deals with the NFL and WWE. But coupled with John Mulaney’s Everybody’s in LA, Netflix’s nab of Hot Ones could finally solve talk show appointment viewing in the streaming era.
Between the Wings: Netflix wants in on the viral heat of Hot Ones.
The deal hasn’t been finalized yet, but it would have Evans host several live episodes of the show exclusively for Netflix.
Considering the average episode brings in millions of viewers (and popular ones hit tens of millions), the deal would add some much needed spice to Netflix’s livestream efforts, and it would be a delicious draw for advertisers.
Additionally, don’t be surprised if Netflix uses it as a way to prop up the stars of its biggest movies and TV shows.
Hot Take: Top YouTube shows like Hot Ones have been pushing to be treated with the same respect (and compensation) as similar shows on premium networks and streaming platforms. By making a partial move to Netflix, Hot Ones host Sean Evans could conquer that gauntlet… and chart a path for other YouTube-native creators.
Go Hotter: As an added bonus, the deal may be a primer for BuzzFeed to finally find a buyer for First We Feast.
